Vic - a great Chairman and sincere friend to the PLSC

 

Vic Salt passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of 22nd August 2017. His passing was a great shock particularly to Lynne his wife, and his family and friends. Vic had thoroughly enjoyed judging Bearded Collies on the Saturday 20th August at WKC and had travelled home on Sunday with Lynne after enjoying their caravanning weekend and meeting up with exhibitor’s friends and judges. He was looking forward to their journey to and judging at SKC the following weekend, and had settled down in the evening,  eager to watch the final Olympics and closing ceremony, Vic had always been a traditionalist and very proud of his roots and country.

We are all deeply saddened and will reflect on Vic and his involvement with our breed, the PLSC, and dog world in our own individual ways.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vic took over as chairman of the PLSC in 2005, and said he was honored to take on the role; he was a fabulous Chairman, in his first year he enjoyed the PLSC Symposium and welcomed overseas visitors, members and friends of our club. He never missed committee meetings and was always eager to be involved with the progress of the breed and club, as newcomers joined he was welcoming and always treated everyone with same respect, happy to pass on his great knowledge of show rules and regulations and his wealth of knowledge in all areas of the dog world. Being show manager too Vic would help and assist anyone at our events, he made sure all was in order for a smooth running show and we gained ‘excellent reports’ from the KC field officers.

Vic and Lynne had were both were absorbed in dogs and had gained knowledge of many breeds, in one instance by running a very busy boarding kennel, but their interest in showing and breeding bought them much success within the dog world. Vic was involved in Rough Collies initially, and then with Lynne they were drawn to BSD and with their enthusiasm and ‘eye for a good dog’ became breed experts and top breeders with their world famous Woodlyn kennel, they were very successful exhibitors breeding many Champions and their breeding admired and sought after worldwide. Champions Woodlyn Penny Black, Black Jack & Black Velvet were just three of the outstanding BSD they bred in the 80’s.

               

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vic was involved with general and breed committees, but even when he fulfilled a lifelong dream by judging the Pastoral Group at Crufts in 2015, he remained the same, offering everyone a kind word, sharing his lovely sense of humour and always smiling, and continuing to help out the local shows in a stewarding capacity too.

Vic was so proud that all his CC appointments had been gained by the studying of breeds over many years and gaining the numbers to fulfill breed club criteria, he never ‘fast tracked’ and became one of the most respected pastoral judges of all time, always judging with complete integrity, kindness and consideration.

On 31st July, as Chairman of the PLSC, he was keen to attend the seminar and was an assessor of the candidates; he chaired a committee meeting afterwards and thoroughly enjoyed the warmth and joviality throughout the meeting. Vic always smiled and made jokes about taking a packed lunch to the meetings! He was looking forward to the Polish Lowland Sheepdog  Club Open show on Oct 1st, and had made note of the filling for the rolls Lynne  would prepare for the refreshments, and of course Lynne and Sue always ran the ‘kitchen’ and prepared and served our judges their tasty lunches.  Lynne and Vic have always been unstinting in their generosity and support to the PLSC and we are all so grateful for the years he freely gave to the Polish Lowland Sheepdog Club, breed and members.

                   

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Vic famous greeting was ‘ay up duck’ and he would tell about an exhibit that had ‘filled him up’ he was unique and was unable to walk through halls at shows for being stopped for - a hug from the ladies or just the chance to be engaged in his anecdotes, memories or down to earth dog conversation.

Lynne and Vic were a devoted couple, they were soul-mates, but when not at shows they loved nothing better than being at home together, looking out from their conservatory into their beautiful garden, enjoying a cup of tea with their little dogs ‘Honey’ and ‘Lara’, giving them hours of pleasure.

Our deepest and sincere condolences to Lynne and Vic’s family, and hopefully Lynne will take great comfort in the precious years she shared with Vic a true gentleman, who will always remain in our kindest thoughts.

Vics funeral will be a celebration of his life and will be held at 3pm on Wednesday Sept 14th at Amber Valley Memorial Park and Crematorium, Derby Rd, Swanick, Derbyshire DE5 9RL, afterwards all will be welcome at The Ormonde Field Golf Club, Codnor, Ripley. DE5 9RG.

Lynne would like to convey her gratitude and appreciation for all the messages, flowers and calls that she has received on Vic’s passing, she is overwhelmed and has been comforted by the support and compassion shown.
