History Making Hero

For the first time a Polish Lowland Sheepdog has won best in show at a UK general championship show. At Southern Counties Championship Show Ch Mybeards Hero was awarded Best In Show by Keith Nathan. The Pastoral Group was judged by Mr John Carter and the breed on the day was judged by breed specialist Mr Paul Lang (Dollypegs)

Hero is a five-year-old male, bred by Diane Mottram of the Mybeards affix and owned and shown by her daughter Lucy.

Diane has been top breeder for PLS since the award was inaugurated. She has bred 41 UK champions and some overseas too.

Hero’s dam Mybeards Scarlet (by Polish import Galant Z Gangu. Dlugich ex Mybeards Simplicity) wasn't shown but produced Ch Mybeards Wish who won two pastoral groups. Wish’s sire Mybeards Dynamic was the same way bred as Hero’s sire Ch Mybeards Domination but from different litters (both by Ch Mybeards Dynamite ex Ch Mybeards Shimmer). Scarlet has been top brood for several years. Domination won BOB at Crufts and numerous CCs.

Hero has won 17 CCs, all with BOB. With his first CC he won a group 2 at Darlington 2014 at 17 months old. He has now taken one group, three G2, four G3 and five G4. He was BOB at Crufts twice, in 2016 and 2018.

The kennel is the only one in the breed to have won championship show groups in the UK. The first UK champion Ch Mybeards Pioneer won the working group at Welsh KC in 1997. Ch Mybeards Dynamite won the pastoral group at Bath in 1999 – Hero is linebred back to these dogs.

The others to have won are Ch Mybeards Treaty to Delphina (who is the male breed record holder with 23 CCs), Ch Mybeards Dream (breed record holder with 25 CCs) who won two groups, Ch Mybeards Wish (two groups) and now Hero.

This year Lucy won G4 with Hero at Crufts; the only other Polish to achieve a Group placing at Crufts was Diane’s Ch Mybeards Sapphire who was G3 in 2002.
